Had a special prayer at our church today for the World Cup – it was nice, Rev. Nigel made it up. He even gave it to us all on a piece of paper, for Wednesday! It goes:

“Dear Lord and father of all, pray give England’s players in the World Cup the heart to do their best, the spirit to play well and fairly, and the courage to endure disappointment and failure if that is their lot, and grace in victory if they succeed. And may they look beyond their game to the greatest tournament of all – to live their lives in the knowledge of your love, and in compassion and kindness to all, as Jesus taught us.”

There was a big “Amen!” ‘cos Rev. Nigel also did a ‘Swanley Park Sabretooths Blessing’ service to bless Dad’s Sunday League team, his church is just opposite the park.

Seemed to work too, ‘cos they lost against Diltington All-Stars 3-1 and no-one got cross!
