HAPPY ENDING FOR MARIE AND LANDINA
Haitian mum Marie Miracle Seignon must feel she has the most
well-chosen middle name in the world - because she's just been
reunited with her daughter after giving her up for dead!
(Picture.)
Then eight months old, Landina was being treated for burns in
hospital in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, when the
devastating earthquake struck. Tragically, the collapse of the
hospital killed some of the nurses caring for her - so her mum
lost track of her and had given up hope that she might still
be alive. But she'd been saved, though the poor little thing lost
an arm in the disaster. After treatment for that at a different
unit, she was brought to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital,
where surgeon David Nott operated on the burns to her head. That
was where top charity Facing the World came in - tracking down her
mum through documents found in the ruins of the hospital. A few DNA
checks later, Marie was on her way to London for the reunion of a
lifetime with Landina. "I thought she was dead, so my feelings
were very, very strong," she says.
"But when I saw her I was amazed. I couldn't believe she was alive
- this is a very happy moment!"
That's so great! There's an appeal to help pay for Landina's
continuing care here - if you'd like to help, ask your mum or dad
